Brilliant West Week

Brilliant West Week is a new initiative announced by the Premier on Friday 19 October 2007. Building on the success of the Inventor of the Year Award, the event aims to provide opportunities to develop and promote innovation and creativity in WA. Expected to take place in October 2008, the program will incorporate events targeted at school students, innovators, academics, researchers, commercialisation stakeholders and investors.

Brilliant West Week will provide opportunities to develop and promote innovation and creativity in Western Australia. The program is designed to engage primary, secondary and tertiary students in science and innovation-related activities, and encourage students to think about careers in science.

For researchers and businesses, it will help develop the knowledge, skills and networks to take new products and services from idea to market.

Western Australia has more to offer than a resources economy. While the mining and oil and gas sectors continue to prosper, the State is achieving success in other areas such as marine and defence manufacturing, biotechnology, information and communications technologies, renewable energy, science and innovation.

The key objectives of Brilliant West Week are to:

  • work collaboratively with industry, government, academia and schools to foster an environment of innovation;
  • combine and present a range of innovation-related activities across public, industry and education sectors;
  • provide a focal point to demonstrate and promote Western Australia's innovative capacity to a local, national and international audience; and
  • brand Western Australia as a creative and innovative state.
