Programs and Awards

The Department of Commerce's Science, Innovation and Business Division administers several programs aimed at supporting and promoting innovation in Western Australia, including:

  • Inventor of the Year Award
    Provides a fantastic opportunity for local inventors to develop the product or service they have created and get it ready for market. There are two components to the Award – the Business Competition and the Schools Competition.
  • Investment Ready Program
    An integrated development package to assist start-up firms in successfully establishing operations and enable existing firms to develop to a position suitable for private equity investment.
  • Premier's Research Fellowship Program
    The Premier’s Research Fellowship Program seeks to attract excellent researchers to WA from overseas or interstate, to conduct scientific research that is internationally competitive and of specific benefit to WA.
  • Science and Innovation Studentship Award
    The Science and Innovation Studentship Award is an annual grant program to provide an opportunity for research students to work on a project with a Western Australian private sector organisation of their choice for a period of 10 weeks.
  • WA Industry and Export Awards
    The Western Australian Industry and Export Awards are the State's most prestigious business awards.
    They acknowledge the innovation, hard work and success of businesses, large and small, in reaching new markets.
  • Western Australian Science Awards
    Recognising excellence in science by rewarding the State’s outstanding scientists, science communicators, teachers and students.
