Guidelines for Listing in the Innovation Services Directory

In order to encourage support networks to facilitate the development of innovative products and services in WA, the Department of Commerce has produced the Innovation Services Directory.

A joint initiative between the department, the Small Business Development Commission and AusIndustry, the directory assists innovative organisations and start-up companies to access professional services such as patent attorneys, intellectual property specialists, test manufacturers, commercialisation strategists and capital providers to develop and grow their businesses.

Requests for listing in the Innovation Services Directory are assessed by the Department of Commerce against the following criteria:

  • The product or service must be aimed at supporting industry-focussed research and development (R&D), innovation and/or commercialisation of innovative products or services
  • The proponent must demonstrate a track record of providing services to support R&D, innovation and commercialisation of innovative products or services
  • Services that support R&D, innovation and commercialisation may include:
    • Strategic advice
    • Consultancy advice
    • Mentoring services
    • Access to private and public sector funding
    • Development of local and international strategic alliances
  • The proponent needs to demonstrate that it is a commercially viable business
    • There must be in existence sound technical and commercial management
    • The proponent must demonstrate the solvency of the business
  • There must be demonstrable social, economic and/or environmental benefits
    • The proponent's business activities must not have adverse social, economic and/or environmental effects
  • The proponent must be prepared to provide information to the Department of Commerce in relation to the directory listing, including the preparation of case studies and profiles to be published on the Innovation Gateway website or other media that aims to encourage the development and commercialisation of innovative products and services.
